“conviction creates convicts.” | August 25, 2011

There was a crowd, whose quilting circle consisted of sewing ideologies, patching up thought, creating mandated comfort zones. The crowd meant well.

There was a figure tarnished with chaos above her head like white noise in a thought bubble. An outline. A shadow. She bumped into life and wasn’t fond of “excuse me”. She wouldn’t make excuses.

Fluid perceptions persevere beyond concrete decisiveness. It infiltrates our stubborn minds. Fluid perceptions wear away protective walls like river rocks edges. It takes time but understanding slips through. This ought to fortify us in conflict, encourage us to be patient in the heat of the storm, to voice our concerns strongly. It all comes out in the wash… the rapids… the brook.  It’s water under the bridge.

The figure and the crowd stand on the other side of the cat fight. Clumps of hair hanging between the fingers of clenched fists, egos’ hanging like deflated sacks around each being, confusion hasn’t left them. Closure hangs in the air but their eyes are to dull to grasp it.

Time softens bruises and scars but resentment doesn’t come with ointment or an antidote.

The divides exist. The divides stand.

“Walls are walls and they’re there for a reason!”

“…And she stopped-
“Lucy, after all this, you’re just giving in today??”
She said:
“I’m not giving in, I’m finished,” and walked away…”

We mean well. You know, like hope and all that stuff.

I am moving away from politics and into affinity.  I am moved by pure love and bare people.  I am moved by defenses down. I am moved by each person owning their part. I am moved by chaos. I am moved by my own strength and dedication to my dreams.

I need fluidity.

No assumptions. No expectations.

  1. You’re a very powerful writer. Fluidity, water, dismantled defenses, you give life.

    Thanks for this post, Lesley.
